A Grand Time Was Had...

Bright's Grove, Ontario

I'm back!
What a week, being on the lake where I spent my summers as a child, enjoying family that I haven't seen in far too long...
I had sketchy and limited internet, which at first was a cause for panic...but then I let it go (no choice!), and enjoyed the break. My boys are accustomed to everything being "new", living here in Las Vegas, so staying at such an "old fashioned" cottage was a learning experience for them...

My lovely Grandmother Eleanor, who turned 90...
We were so blessed to be able to be with her and spend time with this special woman who has brought so much love and joy into our lives!

And now I have returned to piles of school work, sewing, and emails...
but it was worth every minute!

I hope September is coming to a graceful close for you, and that October is looming full of promise...

Have a wonderful weekend,
xo, Nathalie

Vending Machines...The Future Of Shopping?

Several weeks ago I wrote about the baguette vending machines in Paris (here)...
In NYC this week you can get a different kind of baguette from a vending machine, as in diamond!
Hudson Hotel, in honour of New York's Fashion Week, has installed a vending machine in their lobby of some of the "must- have" luxuries for this season....including a diamond bracelet from Ruby Kobo, a rabbit fur jacket from Jolibe, python clutch from SANG A, and handmade wool ties from Public School.

How about you, would you buy a high ticket item like this from a vending machine? I would assume that in no time I will be seeing them all over Las Vegas, they would fit right in!

Happy Monday, have you got your groove on for the week? I am still looking for mine....
I can see it, but need to get there!

Ten Years...

It is so hard to believe that it is ten years since the world as we knew it changed so completely. Watching and reading memories, memories that will never ever leave our minds, where you were when you first heard, the fear, the questions unanswered, that feeling in your heart. So much comes up for air today. My heart goes out to all of the families who lost loved ones, the heroes that saved someone's life...

My son's lego creation captures today, for me ~
Ten years ago today he was 6 months old, a baby... as a new mother, I was so fearful of what kind of world I had brought him into, where was this all going to go?
We sat glued to the television, for so many reasons, one of which was that we were to fly to Rome on September 19 for my sister's wedding on the 22nd. So much loving planning had gone into this trip, and we were meeting up there from spots all over. There were obviously no flights going anywhere...it was a day to day wait. I was so fearful to travel with my baby, although everyone assured me it was safer than ever with the heightened security.
We left LAX on September 19, the first flight to leave the US for Italy...I was barely allowed to bring a diaper on the plane, which was packed. My sister and brother- in-law barely made it in, two days after they were scheduled to travel. My Grandmother and Mother had delays...But at last, in our rental apartment in Rome, we were reunited as a family, so full of gratitude to be together, and to be able to share in a great love story.
Travel across seas, or anywhere, has never been the same since then. In so many ways our lives have changed. I hope that in ten more years, when we sit and look back on this day, we will look back even stronger as a Nation, with no more tragedies.

Peace to all, today and everyday...

Martha!

Wow, what a day I had yesterday...I woke up to see that I was featured on Martha Stewart's website, as their "Doer of the Week"! I am very honoured to be there, and terribly excited...the amount of traffic that poured through my online "homes" was absolutely insane! If you had asked me even a year ago if I thought that I would be featured on the great Martha's website I would have thought you were crazy...I have always been a big fan of Martha's enterprise, and the incredibly talented staff running it.
Baby steps, one after another....eventually take you somewhere!

Colour Inspirations by Aaron Ruell

I came across photographer Aaron Ruell's work on Trendhunter,
and  fell head over heels with these shots...

The photography, the styling, the models, the clothes...
The Rooms!

The bright, popping colours...

I am dying to know where this is...I am thinking it must be one of Kelly Wearstler's hotels in LA...
If I am incorrect, please do tell! Would love to go...

And feel pampered in a luxurious rainbow of delight

How about you, could you live, day to day, in colour like this?

I can't wait for the bright bolts of Nature's colours with the season changing this month ~ I have a trip back East to Canada for my Grandmother's 90th birthday at the end of the month, and am returning to Zion in October, as I heard the Fall colours are not to be missed there. It actually cooled down to 90 here yesterday, and there was a touch of crispness in the air in the evening...I am SO ready!

To see more of Aaron Ruell's work, visit his site here,
and if you know where this stunning location is, let us know!

Have a great week,
Nathalie

The Ultimate Cruise

Back in my maitre'd days in LA, from my front door position we watched the celebrities as they drove up and made their presence known. LA is all about what car you drive ( you spend half of your life in your car), so I saw them all...and if you had the limited edition that no one else had, there would be crowds outside the restaurant staring and taking photos. MY personal favourite from those days is the Bentley, a custom convertible preferably.

I came across the tour that Yatzer took of "Bentleyland"

The first Bentley

A most fascinating read about the making of the ultimate in craftsmanship...
"A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away" ~ Antoine de Sainte-Exupery
Read more here...

I would love to be off on a road trip in one of these purring machines this weekend...however I think I shall be on the couch, recuperating from this week.
Thank you all so much for your encouragement and support on my virtual homeschooling adventure, it means so much!
Even though I have teachers a phone call away, a daily curriculum to follow, and support...I am exhausted! My brain is a fried egg. I know it will get better...smile...
One thing I have noticed, and enjoyed, is that I am having conversations with my boys that I never had time to have before, and I feel that we are getting closer, working as a "team" in this adventure....priceless. Of course I am already looking at the dates for testing and registration for next year!
A year of " getting to know and bond" is what my plan has been...TBC....

Have a fantastic weekend! I have never been so grateful for a 3 day weekend!!!
