Meatless Monday - Torta di Bietole e Ricotta

The Swiss chard in our little garden is producing at full speed, so I am checking out any and all chard recipes! This one, from "La Cucina, the Regional Cooking of Italy" , is what I will be trying this evening.

Swiss Chard and Ricotta
3 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
1 1/4 lbs. Swiss chard
10 oz. ricotta
3 large eggs, beaten
Salt and pepper
Preheat the oven to 350 F. Grease a baking dish with olive oil. Parboil the Swiss chard until tender, about 5 minutes, and drain well. Heat the remaining olive oil in a large pan and add the chard. Cook until totally wilted.
In a bowl, crush the ricotta with the tines of a fork, add the eggs and chard, and salt and pepper lightly. Put this mixture in the baking dish and bake for 10 minutes.
Buon Appetito!

GiveAway at Green Island Studios!

The extremely talented Jo Bradford, over at Green Island Studios, is doing a giveaway! But you have to get there March 31st. I absolutely love all of her prints, and have some of her work that I treasure. Here are some of my favourites, but I think my choice for the giveaway will be the one up above "The World's a Bubble."
My husband's birthday is coming up, and when we met we used to love going to Venice Beach and blowing bubbles... Now we have kids and bubbles somehow have taken on a whole other meaning. Perhaps this shot will take us back to a different time and place...

Getting Ready for the 2010 Governor's Ball at The Oscar's

It is really hard to believe that it has been 16 years that Wolfgang Puck has been doing the Governor's Ball at The Oscars. I did them with him that first year, in my Bob Mackie gown, and always enjoy seeing what my old friends are up to. Always one to come up with something new, to complement the 1930's Hollywood elegance and glamour theme, Wolfgang will be serving a crispy potato galette topped with smoked salmon to start ( not new, but such a delicious classic), followed by individual black truffle chicken pot pies...Yum! 250 chefs come from around the country to help out for this event, and the timing is impeccable. You don't get much more glamourous than this! I remember when I was there, the moment that the doors open and all of the stars pour into the room...WOW! I had such butterflies in my stomach.
Sometimes I miss my old Hollywood days...But I will enjoy watching them at home in my jammies with my boys...Checking out the outfits, hair and makeup is so entertaining. I always miss Billy Crystal though... he was the best.
And here he is in Oscar groove, preparing for the big day...

Pastry Chef Sherry Yard has created individual Baked Alaska's, served warm and filled with coffee toffee crunch ice cream ...mmmm! They are lit from the inside with a glow of changing colours. Can you just see the waiters descending upon the tables with hundreds of these? I have known her since she first came to work with Wolfgang many years ago, and am always amazed and inspired by her creations. Not only are her desserts delicious, but they are true works of art, as you can see.
Do you see the Oscars with smoked salmon, creme fraiche and caviar in the background....yum!
I hope that you enjoy watching them tomorrow!

Tsk, Tsk...Award Protocol

I have a few confessions to make... I have been so lucky and blessed to receive a few "Awards" ...and I have been amiss at posting about them. This beautiful Sunshine Award above, that completely brightened my day, came from the incredibly talented Catherine, of "A Thousand Clapping Hands"...
This morning I did a quick browse of my reading list, and noticed that several people have posted about Awards, and how to respond, if they do or don't. I am immensely honoured to be a recipient, but sometimes all of the required actions have seemed daunting to me...and upon looking for people to bestow them upon, they have already gotten them. So...does one award twice? Give one to someone they do not have a "history" with? for thought . At the moment I am bestowing them out to all of you that have taken the time to click on my blog and read my quandary on this subject. And if I do not have the required actions associated with it posted, I apologize to the creator of the Award that took the time to create it.
Also passed on to me by the lovely Catherine

How fortunate am I to have received this delightful award from the delightful and entertaining Christina ....I love stopping by to visit her at "Fabulous Finds Gal"
I am feeling a bit less guilt ridden here amongst my blog friends...even though I did not fully complete my tasks of passing these lovely awards on, I think that by taking the time to leave comments for each other that that is the ultimate award of all...and I enjoy leaving comments on all of these amazing posts that are put out into the world !
Thanks to you all,
