When things like this come up, I am very grateful to be living in Las Vegas. Several years ago I knew nothing about dinosaurs. Then came Marcello (my son) who was obsessed with them. Hence I now know quite a bit, and it really is interesting. The auction house has this lot open to the public free of charge at the old Guggenheim at The Venetian, and we went over the weekend. If you are in town I highly recommend stopping by...the auction is Saturday, October 3. I will be curious what the selling prices will be!Tuesday, September 29, 2009

Kandinsky at The Guggenheim in NYC
I became intrigued with Kandinsky's work after reading about Peggy Guggenheim, and seeing his pieces at her museum in Venice. I'd love to be in New York right now, to visit the Guggenheim Museum's Kandinsky exhibit. This exhibit draws from the three largest public holdings of his work... The Guggenheim Museum, The Centre Pompidou in Paris, and The Stadtische Gallerie im Lenbachhaus, Munich, as well as several other renowned institutions and private collections. All combined to offer 100 paintings from 1902 to 1942. What an incredible opportunity to see works from a legend credited with inventing modern abstract painting. New York here I come!At The Guggenheim from September 18 to January 13

Tintin and Milou in Brussels
My sons are voraciously reading the adventures of Tintin, the Belgian boy reporter, and his dog Milou ( Snowy in english). I would take them to Brussels for the sole reason of staying at The Hotel Amigo. Each of the 173 rooms has figurines of the pair. Olga Polizzi, the design director for her brother Sir Rocco Forte's collection of hotels, was inspired by the cultural image that Tintin has with Brussels. What a fun and exciting twist on the hotel room... I wonder if they offer Tintin adventure tour packages?Saturday, September 12, 2009

My Love of Maps
I love maps, and am saddened that in the modern world we have GPS'd our lives away from the joy of opening up a map and reading and tracking our routes. Obviously I am a romantic, not a techie.I try to surround my kids with globes and maps, fearful that they will become victims of their generation and have no knowledge of Geography.Rachel Austen has come up with a really unique and beautiful use for all of those unused maps out there...her map paintings are so cool, I am very intrigued with them. Visit her Etsy shop to see more...she also does cards and jewelry.
You can read more about Rachel on her blog.
Sherry Truitt has come up with a unique way to wear vintage maps...these elegant map cufflinks are really unique and sure to be an attention getter. I love the colour. You can see more in her Etsy shop here.
